Medicine

Internal medicine is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of internal systems and organ disease.

It excludes skin complaints (dermatology) and surgically treated conditions. Disorders can occur in any organ system (such as the heart, lungs and kidneys) and internal medicine also includes blood disorders such as anaemia, the medical treatment of cancer (chemotherapy) and infectious diseases like kennel cough and cat flu.

The types of illnesses we see in small animal medicine are broad and range in severity. Endocrine (hormone) diseases such as diabetes and Cushing’s disease are good examples of common medical complaints. HVC has an extremely strong team of vets and nurses with a passion for the dedicated treatment of medical disease. Many of our vets have a special interest in medicine which means we are constantly up-skilling and always up to date with the latest treatment options available.

Preventative medicine is also really important to our team. This includes any intervention that will prevent disease in the future such as vaccination, parasite control and prophylactic dental treatment.

We understand how hard it is to have a special member of your family unwell or admitted to hospital and we are here to provide a high level service and to help you make the best choices for your pet’s medical care.
